Each player gets 13 cards (10 in the fast version). One card opens the discard pile, the rest form the stock. Each turn: draw one card and discard one. Play continues until a player melds their whole hand.
Run: 3+ consecutive cards in one suit. Set: 3-4 cards of the same rank in different suits. Ace can be low (A-2-3) or high (Q-K-A) but never wrap around.
A joker substitutes any card. Many variants allow "redeeming" a joker from the table by supplying the real card. A joker left in hand costs 30 penalty points.
Number cards = face value, J/Q/K = 10, Ace = 1 or 11, Joker = 30. The round winner scores 0; everyone else counts remaining cards. The game ends when a player passes 100/200 points.
Rummy 51: first meld must total 51+. Rummikub: played with 106 tiles and 2 jokers, 30-point opening, and allows full-table manipulation.
1) Keep cards that serve two combinations. 2) Discard high cards early. 3) Track what opponents draw from the discard pile. 4) Avoid drawing openly without reason. 5) With a bad hand, play to minimize points instead of to win.
Rummy is combination and probability without built-in betting; in poker the bet itself is the main tool, which is why long-term profit exists there. Texas Hold\'em is the natural next step, or see all card games.
